You wouldn't be human if you didn't feel down sometimes. Islam doesn't ask you to suppress those feelings — it gives you words to carry them to Allah.

Here are five authenticated duas to say when anxiety, sadness, or negative thoughts weigh on you.

1. For Grief and Sadness

"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from grief and sadness, from weakness and laziness, from miserliness and cowardice, from being overcome by debt and overpowered by men."

— Sahih al-Bukhari 6369

This dua covers every dimension of feeling overwhelmed — emotional, physical, financial, and social.

2. To Make Things Easy

"O Allah, nothing is easy except what You make easy, and You can make what is difficult easy if You wish."

— Sahih Ibn Hibban 970

When everything feels impossible, this dua acknowledges that ease comes only from Allah.

3. When You Feel Desperate

"O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, by Your mercy I seek help."

— Jami' al-Tirmidhi 3524

Short, powerful, and it calls upon two of Allah's greatest Names — Al-Hayy and Al-Qayyum.

4. Against Calamity and Misfortune

"O Allah, I seek refuge in You from severe calamity, from misery to fall upon me, from misfortune in the decree, and from the joy of the enemies."

— Sahih al-Bukhari 6347

5. From the Quran — Musa's Dua

"My Lord, expand for me my chest, and ease for me my task, and remove the impediment from my tongue, so people may understand my speech."

— Taha 20:25-28

Musa عليه السلام made this dua before one of the hardest tasks ever given to a human — confronting Pharaoh. If it was good enough for a prophet facing a tyrant, it's good enough for whatever you're facing today.

A Note on Mental Health

These duas are spiritual support, not a substitute for professional care. If you're struggling with prolonged depression or anxiety, please seek help from a qualified professional. Islam encourages seeking treatment — taking care of your mental health is part of taking care of the trust Allah gave you.

Your Action Step

Pick one dua from this list. Write it out. Put it where you'll see it — your phone wallpaper, your mirror, your desk. Say it with intention every morning for the next 7 days.
